Transpersonal Painting

SLIDES

“Art is a kind of innate drive that seizes a human being and makes him its instrument. The artist is not a person endowed with free will who seeks his own ends, but one who allows art to realize its purpose through him. As a human being he may have moods and a will and personal aims, but as an artist he is "man" in a higher sense— he is "collective man"— one who carries and shapes the unconscious, psychic forms of mankind.” Carl Jung.

For me, the powerful visual impact and the nature of Camilo’s paintings are better looked at than worded, let's leave it to the experts* to describe it. Camilo is a very kind and fair man, we met in the late 90's when he lived around here, in the beautiful mountains of Córdoba, and I’ve been translating for him, on and off, ever since. It has always been a great joy and an uplifting experience to be in touch with him and his work. This is what he says about it:

“The moment I face the canvass and I start to paint is like the shaping of a space of life that is expressed through colour and form, a space that dwells in our deepest self, a space that comes up to show itself and to tell us about the existence of other subtle forms which express the greatness of creation. Transpersonal painting helps us understand that we’re a unit in an infinite universe, the universe within and the universe without, and that at a certain point they both meet; that very meeting takes us beyond our personal self. Everything is related, every frequency range represents a colour, a form, a sound- a trilogy that shapes life. The use of colours and its forms to break with structures and enter into the realm of the unknown is our way towards a higher, superior end. Everything is there... readily available; we just need to look a little way beyond.”

*Reviews on Camilo’s work

By Dr.Stanley Krippner:

"Camilo Villanueva’s work is representative of the fascinating field referred to as Transpersonal Art. He is a master of shape and forms which he uses to encompass colors never before seen on an artist’s palette. His work reflects “Chaos theory’s Fractals and Holograms”, giving each paintings unique dimensions that add to its distinctiveness. It is “transpersonal” in the sense that it contains content that is spiritual in nature, displaying its roots in Nature, both that found out-of-doors and in the depths of the human psyche, leaving his viewers inspired as well as transcendent."

By Cristina Daneri:

"Your work has deeply touched me. You are an excellent, profound and mysterious painter who has a great command of colours. You can draw from the inner world that which is very difficult to attain with the strong colours you choose..."
