adjectives & nouns

Idyllic: adj.

if you describe something as idyllic, you mean that it is extremely pleasant, charmingly simple, and peaceful and without any kind of difficulties or dangers.

synonyms: perfect, ideal, idealised, bucolic, blissful, enjoyable, glorious, happy, unspoiled, out-of-this-world.

"If you are interested in going to an idyllic city that is filled with romance, then you must go to Paris at least once.

"This is the idyllic part of a transformation which had far harsher sides

Awkward : adj.

here you mean something hard to do or deal with; something that causes difficulties or makes you feel embarrassed or uneasy.

-not precisely idyllic-

synonyms: difficult, tricky; embarrassing, uncomfortable, unpleasant, delicate, ticklish, sensitive, problematic, troublesome, perplexing, thorny, humiliating.

"There was an awkward silence when Greg was introduced to an ex-girlfriend at a party."

Experimental: adj.

Something that is experimental is based on experience; is new or uses innovative ideas or methods for doing or thinking about something, and... can be modified later if it doesn't work out.

synonyms: exploratory, innovative, original, inventive, radical, avant-garde, alternative, fringe; unfamiliar, unorthodox, unconventional, eccentric, offbeat, off-centre, bohemian; probing, fact-finding, trial and error.

Courtship: noun

the kind of idyllic period when a couple develop a romantic relationship with the intention of marrying; behaviour designed to persuade someone to have a romantic relationship with one.

synonyms: romance, affair, love affair, going out, dating, courting.

"His courtship of Emma was idyllically happy"

"Everyone showed lots of skin and courtship perfumed the air."

Parenthood: noun

the state and situation of being a parent and the responsibilities involved...

Midlife: noun - adj.

the period of life between about 40 and 60 - also called: middle age

Retirement: noun

the period in someone's life after they have stopped working because of having reached a particular age.

Eccentric: noun adj.

strange or unusual, unconventional, sometimes in a humorous way.

synonyms: uncommon, irregular, anomalous, odd, queer, strange, peculiar, weird, bizarre, off-centre, outlandish, freakish, extraordinary...
